The Cats' loss to St Kilda on Saturday night was their third defeat against a side from the bottom 10. The other seven teams in the top-eight have lost a combined two games against bottom 10 teams.

Scott said it was an issue Geelong needed to address.

"You can't defend the indefensible," he told Fox Footy on Monday night.

"We need to acknowledge that we do have a problem in that area."

He stopped short, however, of labelling his team "big-headed" following stern criticism from Cats premiership captain Cameron Ling on Sunday.

Ling told 3AW: "This could be unfair because I'm not in the inner sanctum, but I could only put it down to an approach that isn't 100 per cent as detailed, and as perfect, as it should be."

Scott said wasn't convinced.

"It's something we can't gloss over. I think that analysis is a little superficial, and that's not being disrespectful to the people that make that analysis. They're not privy to the information that we have. We like to dig a little bit deeper," Scott said.

"But it'd be a folly for us to say 'oh that's not a factor at all', because the evidence is starting to stack up."

Scott added that he was frustrated by not having star midfielder Patrick Dangerfield on the ground late in the final term, suggesting that the Cats were "desperate" to get the Brownlow medal favourite back following a spell on the bench.
