Early this week 10 entrants had signed on for the local modelling competition to be held at the Irish Club on Saturday night.
Kaydee Steed is the one entrant so far who is brave enough to support New South Wales openly on the catwalk.
“I probably will be booed off the stage,” she said. “I was born there, not bred there.”
“It is my first anything, I don’t do modelling, it’s my first time in one, I’m very scared.”
Entrant Dannielle Horwood watched the Townsville heat of the Face of Origin competition last Friday.
She noted that the Townsville set-up was different to what Mount Isa was used to.
Mount Isa models were able to be on stage a little longer and therefore had more stage presence.
However, Townsville entrants were “on point” with their hair and makeup.
Face of Origin is Ms Horwood’s second modelling competition.
Her first was the local heat of the Australian Swimwear Model of the Year in April.
Ms Horwood’s experience in that competition would help her in the Face of Origin.
“I will definitely work more on my posing and my walk, she said.
She emphasised the importance of pausing and supporting the photographer, instead of dedicating all the energy for the judges.
“If you want a good crowd response you really have got to interact with everyone,” Ms Horwood said.
The Irish Club’s event manager Akos Schneider said the winner of the Mount Isa heat will compete in the national finals in the Gold Coast.
Mr Schneider said Queensland and New South Wales supporters will inevitably compete against each other in the national finals.
He said that in the Mount Isa heat there will be three rounds of the night; cocktail wear, footy theme, and swimsuit.
The competition is held at the Irish Club on Saturday night.
Doors open at 9pm. Entry is free.
