The Blues skipper was in no doubt that the 18-year-old was ready to play his first AFL game after some strong form in the VFL.

If Silvagni was named on Thursday night, it would be one of the most highly-anticipated debut games in Carlton history.

The youngster is the son of AFL full back of the century Stephen Silvagni and grandson of two-time premiership midfielder Serge Silvagni - both of whom are Carlton legends.

When asked if he would endorse Silvagni's selection this week, Murphy told RSN 927: "I certainly would. I think the whole leadership group would and the coaches would.

"He's played three really good weeks of football in a row, I think he's kicked (bags of) four, four and two (goals).

"He's putting his hand up, I think he was getting close last week, getting close again this week.

"I know he's on the end of everyone's lips – especially a lot of Carlton people who are pretty excited to see a Silvagni run out there again.

"He's doing everything right at the moment."

The Carlton captain said Silvagni was doing a lot more than just kicking goals in the VFL.

"He's working hard, tackling, putting forward pressure on, so doing everything right and that's all you can ask for," he said.

"He's stringing games together at a really high level.

"He's a great ball user around the ground as well, he's very fluent and watching him the other week in the wet he was really clean and I think that's a really good sign of a good footballer."

The Blues face the Magpies at the MCG on Saturday night and, having already beaten them in Round 7, are aiming to do the double against them for the first time since 2012.

A win for Carlton would see them stay in touch with the top eight and keep their faint finals hopes alive.
