When talented mare In A Wink arrived at Alan Scorse's stable she had been retired and needed to overcome fear.
Fear of being "smashed out of the barriers", as happened to her in the Tamworth Cup when she was squeezed between two horses shortly after jumping.
"We have done a lot of work with her to overcome what happened to her at Tamworth," Scorse said. "She came from Greg Bennett to me and he told me that she just held her breath last time at Scone because of what had happened to her.
"She got to the 200 metres and nearly fainted and it is because of what happened to her in the Tamworth Cup. She just has a fear of what can happen at the barriers.
"She is still a nice horse."
In A Wink makes her way back at Rosehill on Saturday with Scorse planning to put earmuffs on her "because they tell me it can help to calm them".
"We have done a lot of work with her in the barriers and put earmuffs on her to help," Scorse said. "There is no doubt she is up to a race like this one. She is fit enough and it will come down to how she handles the day.
"She has had a couple of trials and it is time for her to go to the races and see how she goes. We have been happy with her but we won't really know until Saturday."
In A Wink already has a black-type success from the Denise's Joy Quality at Scone last year and her first couple of runs this preparation were full of promise. She was nabbed on the line at Warwick Farm before being beaten by a length into third in the Tamworth Cup.
"She is a nice mare and we are giving her a chance to show she can get back to where she was this time last year," Scorse said. "If things go right on Saturday she should be very competitive in that company.
"I actually think drawing out will help because there won't be that many horses around her and we want her to get her confidence back.
"It is a good race leading into Grafton where she can win in the Mother's Gift, which I think is probably over her best trip."
In A Wink is a $41 outsider with Ladbrokes in an open race that has Flamboyant Lass, Thud and Pioneering fighting for favouritism.
