South Sydney Rabbitohs' most experienced player, John Sutton, will rack up yet another milestone this weekend, with players hoping the occasion will give them the edge against the reigning premiers.

Sutton will bring up his 250th appearance against the North Queensland Cowboys on Sunday – the first player to do so in the club's 108 year history.

Teammate Jason Clark said the occasion would bring out the best in the side.

"It will lift – especially our younger players as well – it will make them lift. We'll touch on it as the week goes on and before the game," he said.

"I think the players will really realise – we've had blokes that just last week played their first game, so for them to understand that John's playing [his 250th] – it's a big deal."

The importance of the occasion was also not lost on Sam Burgess.

"I know [Sutton's] family very well and I can only tell you how proud his mum and dad are going to be."

"It's obviously a cracking day – we should all celebrate it. Such [an] historic club – he's the first player to reach 250. I think on a day that John [will be] celebrating – no one wants to let him down," he said.

Sutton was quick to deflect the focus from himself to the job at hand.

"[I] never thought I'd play 250 games – especially for Souths. You know, what a club. It's a bit of a dream come true sort of thing," he said. "It's a great achievement, but like I said I'm just worried about trying to get the two points.

"[I'm] just looking to play my best football this week. You know, I've had a couple of games under my belt now – [I'm] just looking forward to getting back out there and getting [those] two points."

A one-club player, the 31-year-old said despite occasional interest from other clubs, he'd never really considered a move.

"I guess you'll always test yourself on the open market but always deep down, my family is Souths through and through," he said.

"Souths has always been my number one club and I've never ever really felt I had to go anywhere else."

Asked if the players had anything special planned, the former five-eighth said there was only one thing on his mind.

"I just want them to do their job this week and I'll do my job, and that's all that counts," he said.

The 2014 premiers have struggled this season but are still a mathematical possibility to make the playoffs.

Most would think that job was made harder by sacrificing a home fixture to play North Queensland in Cairns, although Sutton isn't so sure.

"We like travelling and spend some time with the team, so we're motivated more than ever," he said. "We know we have to win games and it starts this week."

"I'm just concentrating on the Cowboys, that's all we can worry about. That's the two points there we need to get. [What better way than] to do it than up in Cairns."
