The Parramatta Eels are the first and only professional club in a national sporting competition to boast a domestic violence action plan with the concept's founder warning the strife-torn club not to shy away from tackling head on assault allegations levelled at Semi Radradra.

Eels players have been counselled in three sessions over the past year about family violence by respected Darwin-based ABC sports broadcaster Charlie King, who launched the NO MORE campaign in 2008.

The program has sporting clubs signed up from a host of other codes including the AFL, cricket and basketball – predominantly in the Northern Territory – and has helped significantly reduce the amount of violence on the sporting field and subsequently at home.

The Eels remain the only professional outfit to have linked with NO MORE, which helps clubs draft action plans for preventing and dealing with family violence, with its players linking arms alongside the New Zealand Warriors at the concept's launch during Women In League round last year.

"They were the first national competition team to do it and they're still the only team in a national competition to do it," said King, who became the first Indigenous Australian to commentate at an Olympic Games in 2008. "There's no better test case for this type of work than the scenario they've been confronted with.

"I think the eyes of the sporting world should be on Parramatta and how they actually deal with this because the easy way out is to cover for the guy and life goes on, but the more difficult option is to send the message to everybody that these are the ways in which we've got to tackle these things. They're not running away from that."

Radradra's former partner Perina Ting has alleged she was assaulted several times by the two-time Dally M Winger of the Year during an eight-month period beginning in September 2014.

She has taken out an apprehended violence order against Radradra, who will be allowed to play in the NRL despite being subjected to the allegations.

King said he and the program will be on "short notice" to fly in and counsel Parramatta players, staff and directors should they be required after working for eight months with the club to design the plan.

"If they wanted us there on Monday or Tuesday we would go," King said. "You can't hide from this stuff and you've got to do what you need to do. Everyone's affected.

"This is the perfect example of a club that needs to be there [for its employees]. You want to protect your best player and shield him away from it all, but that doesn't work. There needs to be open discussions with everyone about how they're feeling."

King stopped short of saying whether Radradra should be stood down, claiming his program would not work if he was forced to advise the club on what to do rather than them "owning it".

He said athletes who have emerged from the NO MORE program have taken ownership of their actions and taken a number of steps to address family violence issues.

"In some of the cases we've worked with when someone has been found guilty of a case of family violence and gone to prison ... what we've written in the plan is when they come out of prison they can't come back to the club unless they're prepared to address the playing group and club family," King said.

"They've got to be able to stand before them and say this is what happened."
