Kris Currier said she and husband Ray, 51, had lost faith in the system after the Crime and Corruption Commission failed to press charges against his arresters.

Shocking footage of the Gold Coast arrest, about 8.30pm on Australia Day last year, prompted concern from Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk at the time.

It appears to show the grandfather being punched once in the stomach and then hit in the face while being pushed up against a glass window. Mrs Currier said these strikes knocked her husband out.

The footage, shot by a member of the public, shows Mr Currier falling to the ground, held by several officers.

It then appears to show another officer striking the justice of the peace and youth worker in the head three times as he lies on the ground.

The Crime and Corruption Commission released the results of a months-long investigation into the incident on Thursday, refusing to lay charges against any of the officers involved.

It recommended the Queensland Police Service's Ethical Standards Command pursue disciplinary action against "some officers" but a spokesman said the number of officers to be disciplined had not been finalised.

A QPS spokeswoman said the organisation would consider the information and take "any necessary disciplinary action".

CCC chairman Alan MacSporran said police hadn't done anything wrong in the first interaction with Mr Currier.

He admitted there was "significant" force used in bringing him to the ground but claimed the officer involved could plead self-defence because he thought his gun may have been taken from him.

This was despite "categorically" accepting Mr Currier had no such intent.

Mrs Currier labelled the arrest, which saw her husband face an obstructing police charge that was eventually dropped a "brutal assault, the CCC statement a "crock of crap" and the organisation itself "spineless".

"They're who you go to when you need press charges or you want to press charges on a police officer," she said.

"For that to be an avenue that has now been closed, where do you go to from here?

"They think they're judge, jury and prosecutors."

She called out perceived double standards, arguing the apparent strikes while her husband lay on the ground amounted to coward punches and would attract a hefty penalty for any civilian.

Mr Currier's supporters were expecting charges to be laid against officers on Wednesday and took to Facebook to express frustration.

Police union president Ian Leavers said the CCC had made a "common sense" decision and he fully supported the officers.

"Police only applied force after the complainant refused to stop interfering in the other arrest despite a number of requests to move away," he said.

"I said at the time and I say again that if people are being arrested they should comply with the arrest and if they are witnessing one of their friends or associates being arrested and they object to the arrest, at the time of the arrest is not the appropriate moment to interfere with police."
