The Meteors finished mid-table last season with an equal win-loss ratio and Allsopp planned to have the players confident to take on matches at testing stages.

"Last year they played some really good cricket, and from what I saw they missed out on a couple of key moments in games that cost them matches," he said.

"I'm hoping we can really develop our skills and back our ability so when those crunch moments are on the line, we've got the confidence to go out there and execute."

Not having a team in the Big Bash allows the ACT side to be a breeding ground for talent from a range of teams, leaving them well-positioned to capitalise on the 50-over format.

"There is a really nice mixture of some experienced players who have played for Australia and some young up and coming players that we can hopefully push on to that next level," Allsopp said.

"It's a pivotal time for the women's game and the skill levels from the girls are going from strength to strength. I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with a very talented group of cricketers and helping them further develop their games."

Cricket ACT chief executive Cameron French said Allsopp's selection was a strong indicator for the future of cricket in the territory.

"High-quality appointments like James Allsopp will help us meet our goal to be the No.1 talent hotspot in Australian cricket over the coming years," he said.

"He is more than qualified to deliver a coaching regime to attract and retain talent in the rapidly expanding women's game."

Allsopp is former NSW Premier Cricket batsman and he will travel to and from Sydney to train the squad, as well as coordinate training sessions for the Sydney-based Meteors squad members.
