Essendon got blown away by West Coast in the final term on Thursday night, losing by 78 points, but Bombers coach John Worsfold was just as disappointed with another aspect of the loss – discipline, or a lack of it.

The Bombers are short of some talent on the ground at the moment, but that's not an excuse for any lack of discipline or effort.

And on Thursday night, ruckman Mark Jamar was reported for striking Eagles defender Jeremy McGovern, with the ball nowhere near the pair.

Midfielder David Zaharakis is also likely to have to answer questions as to why he stomach-punched young Eagle Jackson Nelson during the second term.

Nelson, who was performing a run-with role with Zaharakis, needed to be helped from the ground after the pair clashed, stopping a couple of times on the way to vomit.

Worsfold said the actions of his players was disappointing.

"I asked the players if they felt better after those incidents and giving a free kick away against their teammates and you can image the response I got," he said.

"We got beaten in that area of discipline and mental toughness and that's disappointing as well.

"So, again, a big learning curve and [it came from our] more senior players, so that's disappointing."

Jamar would probably not have been available for Essendon's clash with St Kilda next week anyway, as he injured a hamstring not long after the incident with McGovern and missed the rest of the game.

But adding to Essendon's concerns is that not long after Jamar hit the pine, fellow big man Matthew Leuenberger required attention to the knee he has had troubles with in the past.

Worsfold said that early indications were that he too would miss the game against the Saints.

"Hopefully it is nothing too serious," he said. "It's his knee. But he played out the game even though he was pretty sore.

"So it's a bit of an unknown for us. Hopefully it is a very short term thing and he can keep building where he is heading with his footy. Because I think he's got some great footy ahead of him."

Leuenberger missed a total of 15 games over his last two seasons while playing with Brisbane because of a knee injury.

Former Adelaide Crow Shaun McKernan looks likely to get another chance at AFL level, having played the past few weeks in the VFL.

Former Lion Sam Michael has played all season in the reserves and could also be in line for a call-up to add to the three AFL games he played with Brisbane in 2013.
