The trio had a reasonably successful meet returning with seven personal bests between them from the 29 events they contested, and a very respectable medal haul of 19 gold, five silver and one bronze.
Father and son David and Josh Scott had an entertaining tussle for triple jump bragging rights.
By the second round the pair had identical best jumps of 10.31 metres. Coming into the final round Josh had claimed the lead with a personal best (PB) jump of 10.35m but dad was having none of that returning fire with a 10.46 metres to regain the crown.
Coach Awesome (David) was once again the go to man for potential Olympic qualifiers having his master’s nomination upgraded to open in the 100m and 110m Hurdles.
“it’s a little intimidating standing next to some these potential Olympians but what other sport could you get a chance to rub shoulders with this calibre of athlete” he said.
“What was scary though was how fast those guys get out of the blocks.”
David finished the weekend with PB’s in 60m, 110m Hurdle’s and Shot Put and took gold in all his master’s event’s
The clubs other coach Ken Dickson was pretty pleased with his performance in the sprints taking rare wins over Coach Awesome in the 60m and 100m.
“Dave claims he was worn out from his 400m Hurdles but the wins don’t come very often so I’ll take them when I get them” he said.
“We we’re both pretty wreaked by the end of the weekend so it was good that we could both take a few positives home.”
Dickson’s three personal bests in 60m, 200m and 400m were all also Isa club records and to top off the big weekend he also netted himself four NQ Games records for the 50-54yr age group in the 60m, 200m, Javelin and Discus
The next thing on the Clubs agenda is their first ‘Retro Day’ of the season. Retro Days see the athletes given the opportunity to compete in events of days gone by like the 70m sprints.
Along with Walks and Long Hurdles that aren’t done on club days. And even events that club athletes may have competed in at different venues like 50m and 145m sprints as well as some throwing events that have had weight changes over the years.
The club Pole Vaulters will also get a chance to record heights on home soil. Retro Day will be held this Saturday July 9 with the Pole Vaulters kicking off at 8.15am and the track will start at 9.30am.
