The much-improved small defender's current deal expired at the end of this season, giving him the option of leaving the club as an unrestricted free agent.

However, Jetta will now stick with the Demons until the end of 2018 at least.

The 26-year-old is in career-best form and has done some excellent shutdown jobs in the past two seasons on the likes of Eddie Betts, Chad Wingard, Alex Fasolo, Sam Lloyd and Jack Martin.

"I'm definitely excited about the future and I'm glad that the club has stuck by me, especially when the times were a bit tough a few years ago," he told Melbourne's website.

"I feel like I've put a consistent block of footy together over the last few years and I'm definitely playing the best footy I've played at this footy club.

"I'm looking forward to the future, especially with the list we've got at the moment and with Simon Goodwin coming on board as well – I just can't wait to get going."

It's been a remarkable turnaround for Jetta who was delisted at the end of 2013 and re-drafted as a rookie.

His new deal will take him through to his 10th season and see him earn life membership at the club.

Since being taken at pick No.51 in the 2008 draft, Jetta has played 85 games for the Demons.
