Mr Katter did well in all the electorate but the North West was particularly good.
Booth analysis done by the North West Star shows Richmond as the only place in the region that voted for the LNP’s Jonathan Pavetto ahead of Mr Katter on first preferences, and that by a tiny margin of 127-118.
Every other booth recorded solid wins to Mr Katter as he improved his 2013 vote by over 10 percent.
The loss of the LNP’s 2013 candidate Noeline Ikin in January due to a brain tumour was sorely felt by the party and Mr Katter’s name recognition proved too strong.
In Boulia, Mr Katter outvoted Mr Pavetto two to one. It was the same in Hughenden, though the margin was slightly narrower in Julia Creek with Mr Katter outvoting Mr Pavetto 107-61.
Cloncurry is a known area of strength for Mr Pavetto, a town where he has spent a lot of time and made a lot of connections, but even here he was outvoted 279 to 206 - however he did slightly outvote Mr Katter in the Cloncurry pre-poll 198-189.
Over in Mount Isa however, the pre-poll was showing a very different story with Mr Katter comfortably winning 1263-690.
At Kalkadoon (Spinifex State College) it was Mr Jacobsen who finished second ahead of Mr Pavetto, both well behind Mr Katter.
Central was Isa's biggest booth and here Mr Katter easily dominated with 805 votes to Mr Pavetto's 401 and Mr Jacobsen's 350.
In Healy he won 360-243 over Mr Pavetto.
At Barkly he won 246-149 while at Sunset the margin was 347-211.
There was also an easy win at Happy Valley 323-184 despite a Labor campaigner handing out how to vote cards which he called a “baseball bat to hit Bob Katter with”.
The bats stayed at home in Doomadgee which was solidly behind Mr Katter who took more votes than the others combined.
It was the same in other areas with a large indigenous community: Mornington Island and Normanton.
