They were attracted by the magnificent engines and plenty of spit and polish that was on view at this year’s Mount Isa Motor Show and Swap Meet this year.
There were bikes inside the Xstrata Pavilion, there were cars inside and out, the firies were there to show their Jaws of Life techniques and there were prizes for those who could change a tyre the fastest.
Nadia Cowperthwaite from the Mount Isa Motor Show and Swap Meet committee said this was the third year they were running the show and it was going from strength to strength.
“We planned the date straight after last year’s one so it was just a coincidence it was election day but we’re actually hoping people are out and think, ‘oh we might drop into the Show on the way back’,” Ms Cowperthwaite said.

“There’s plenty of cars and bikes and four wheel drives here.
“There’s also a jumping castle for the kids and there’s heaps of food.”
Ms Cowperthwaite said other attractions included several swap meet stalls and motoring shops also had stalls at the show.
“We’ve also got a wide range of categories for people who are entering their vehicles to choose from,” she said.
These included Australian, American, Japanese, European, four wheel drive, sports bikes, cruiser bikes and P-Platers, and outside and inside categories.
“Some four wheel drives the paint looks really nice so it’s better for them to park outside,” Ms Cowperthwaite said.
“Sometimes the sun will bring out different colours in the paint that you can’t see inside.”
Exhibitors came mostly came from Mount Isa but came from as far away as Richmond.
“We have two competitions, one to ‘guess the cube’, to work out what make a crushed car is and there is also ‘change the tyre’ and the winner gets a Milwaukee radio,” she said.
