The Demons are searching for a new coach, with Michelle Cowan – slated to take on the role next year – leaving the club and set to link with Fremantle in her home state.

Cowan has been based in Perth but had commuted to Melbourne to initially work for four days a week in development and player welfare.

Roos is in the final year of his role as senior coach and he and the Demons have yet to broker what, if any, role he will have next year.

He said the development of the women's league offered more opportunities in the industry, and didn't rule out the possibility of replacing Cowan, somewhat light-heartedly declaring he "might have to put my CV in".

But he then added: "It's exciting. I've had a bit to do with the girls. Daisy (Pearce) works with us and I've tried to help out a little bit with the women's team," Roos said on Monday.

"It's something that really interests me. It's a fascinating stage in AFL football because of the inclusiveness – there are a lot of opportunities.

"I just love watching the girls play. What they bring to the game is the passion, excitement, and the standard of football is going to be fantastic."

The inaugural eight-team women's season is set to be staged in February and March.

Demons chief executive Peter Jackson and Roos briefly discussed Roos' future last week. It's unlikely there will be resolution until once the season is over, or at least until the Demons' finals hopes have been extinguished. Simon Goodwin, Roos' right-hand man, will replace him once this campaign is done.

"Peter and I briefly discussed this last week about leaving it until the end of the season. I think we are both in agreement – we don't want to lose focus of this season," Roos said on 3AW.

"You get attached to the club. I am looking forward to this year but I am also looking forward to seeing how they go. Simon is going to be a fantastic coach.

"Whether I have an official role or not, I will be a Melbourne supporter and really looking forward to seeing how they continue to evolve. I have got no doubt there is a real period of sustained success not far around the corner."

The Demons are three games adrift of the top eight and must beat the Dockers in Darwin on Saturday night if they are to remain any chance of featuring come September.

There has been speculation Roos, arguably the league's highest-paid coach, could be tempted to join another club, if a senior vacancy arises.

That appears unlikely, but when asked about this, he responded: "I can't see myself going to another club. As I said, you really start to get wedded to the players, seeing guys like Jack Watts turn it around, Nathan Jones is a great captain now, giving his heart and soul for the footy club, and watching the young guys evolve, it's pretty hard to step away in the full capacity. I am really looking forward to whatever role that will be – whether it be a supporter or member coming to games."

The Swans' 2005 premiership coach said he was also looking forward to travelling with wife Tammy later in the year, and developing their meditation and wellness business.

"Firstly, we are going to go away, to South America, and do a trip ... then we are going to finish up in New York and have Christmas with Tami's family," he said.

"Next year I want to be involved in some commentary. I still enjoy doing that, I enjoy being involved in footy. We are also starting a leadership and meditation wellness company. Tami and I are doing that as well, so I want to get heavily involved in the leadership and wellness.

"I am looking forward to it. It's just a different stage of life. Obviously, Tami wants to spend more time with her family in America, so we will be doing that as well."
