The organisation held an Arts and Culture Youth Group Activity on Wednesday with many children attending to work on a Headspace banner that would be used in the Naidoc march on Friday.
Headspace youth and community engagement officer, Chris Doyle, said he organised the event to continue to engage the young people of Mount Isa.
“It provided a safe place for Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth to interact and socialise,” Mr Doyle said.
“We participated in Naidoc last year with another art activity including painting canvas shoes.
“We have now made Headspace a known name within the local Indigenous community, in part due to our ‘Yarnsafe’ initiative. We interact regularly with the young people and their parents and carers, to make Headspace known as a safe place to come to.”
Headspace look forward to participating in Naidoc celebrations again next year.
