However, she issued safety tips in a blog post for Mount Isa Pokemon Go users who might be acting dangerously while using their app.
“’I was collecting Pokemon’ is not a legal defence against a charge of trespass, so be sure that you have permission to enter an area or building,’” Sergeant Purcell said.
She also said people should switch off the app when driving.
“’A Pokemon appeared right in front of me’ is not the answer you want to give to a coroner or the victim’s family if you caused an accident,” she said.
Other safety tips she listed include:
-Be considerate of others and do not invade someone’s space.
-Communicate with your family and let them know where you are going and what time you expect to be home.
-Stay alert to what is going on around you and who is around you.
-Switch off the app while driving.
