Mr Shearer wrongly predicted Queensland would win, although acknowledged they would have to work hard to do it. “Despite their (Maroon’s) dominance there has still not been many 3-0 whitewashes,” he said.
Mr Shearer is in the North West Region to mentor Cloncurry school students during their belated Naidoc week.
“I’m going to talk to older people and students about inspiration and goals and motives, as well as playing and refereeing a game,” he said.
Mount Isa Blues supporter Hag Harrison was not disappointed in the 18-14 result. He predicted that New South Wales was going to win.
“(But) I thought they were going to win the last two games, and they didn’t,” Mr Harrison said.
Maroons supporter Zane King said it was a great game. He looked forward to next year’s State of Origin series.
