The people have chosen and it is almost over, bar the final counting.
The end result could very well bring a very challenging period ahead in the federal parliament with the possibility of a diverse and even divisive Senate shaping the country's future.
It saddened me to watch the two old parties (the ALP and the LNP) during the campaign.
They were ignoring some of the greatest issues of our time.
These included that of global warming, in their quest for power and control with total disregard for what is best for our country and its people.
What has inspired me however, was the incredible team of candidates and members and the tens of thousands of volunteers and supporters.
They have given so much of their time, energy and money to ensure we can continue working towards a more equitable, kinder and more sustainable Australia.
Thank you to the 3781 voters of Kennedy who demonstrated their belief and trust in what we Greens stand for.
They have raised our percentage of the primary vote by 1.53% to 4.77% a level not achieved before in the electorate (count not complete at time of writing).
With the national primary Greens vote standing at 1,220,755 (not final), the Greens will be a force to be reckoned with into the future.
We will maintain our policies of peace and non-violence, social justice, grass-roots participatory democracy and ecological sustainability.

Misconceptions about cancer
There are many myths and misconceptions about cancer, but we’d like to set the record straight for readers.
Rumours abound of conspiracies and cures, based on hocus-pocus theories of mistletoe and miracles.
If you have questions about cancer, go to a trusted source.
Call Cancer Council 13 11 20, talk to one of our local team, or visit our iheard website at iheard.com.au.
If you have questions about cancer, we have answers.
Our iheard website even allows you to submit a question for expert response.
From claims about whether tea or coffee can cause cancer, to answering questions about cures for cancer, iheard.com.au separates fact from fiction to provide the latest information available on the disease.
The word ‘cancer’ covers around 200 different types of the disease, which makes it unlikely that there will ever be a magic bullet cure.
It’s far more likely that advances in treatment will result in more cancers becoming manageable chronic diseases.
We’re here to answer all questions about all cancers – for all Queenslanders.
Call us on 13 11 20 or go to iheard.com.au today.
