This unexpected fog spread from Mount Isa to Cloncurry and south to Boulia.
The Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson, Shaun Fitzgerald, said it was rare for mist or fog to form in the North West.
“It was an extensive thickness of fog that we don’t often see,” he said.
“The fog was caused by a massive depth of moisture, and that is also the reason it hung around for so long this morning.
“Locals can expect to see more fog over the coming days as the moisture levels decrease.”
This is the second morning locals have woken to this unusual weather in the North West.
If locals are travelling this morning, flights and trains have not been affected by the fog.
The West Bound Inlander to Mount Isa is still running on time and is shedualed to arrive on time at 9.45am.
