The John Flynn Place employee was at the dam taking photographs that morning when she saw the animal stranded in the water in the overflow side of the dam.
When she realised it was an echidna she phoned for help. Keen photographer and council employee Peter Fitchat soon arrived to rescue the echidna and release it safely.
“It was starting to get tired by the time Peter got there. He had a glove on one hand and scooped it out,” Ms Lund said.
She took photographs of Mr Fitchat on his camera, which were published on his Facebook account that morning.
Mr Fitchat said the echidna’s legs were too short which meant it could not swim on the concrete.
A social media user asked how Mr Fitchat was able to pick up the echidna.
“Very carefully,” Mr Fitchat said.
