Harvey and Carey spoke on Sunday night and again on Monday, after Carey reacted angrily to a section of the book, titled Boomer.

Carey categorically rejected a suggestion that North Melbourne had paid people hush money to protect his reputation.

Carey, who referred in his own autobiography to the often wrong innuendo that followed him through his career, told Triple M he was "terribly sad" that Harvey had written about "things ... that clearly have never happened".

In Boomer, Harvey wrote: "Even before I joined the Kangas I'd heard talk of women and others being paid hush money over something Wayne had said or done.

"Whether that was actually true or not, there'd been a perception Duck was looked after and protected by the club."

In 2002, The Age reported that North Melbourne paid a $15,000 settlement to a woman after an alleged incident involving Carey and teammate Anthony Rock in 1995.

Then-North chief executive Greg Miller denied he had paid anyone on behalf of Carey, but would not deny Carey had been involved in the incident.

Harvey on Monday said Carey had rung him for a "really good conversation" on Sunday night.

"For me, a lot of it was rumour. That's what I want to knock on the head. It wasn't fact and in hindsight I probably shouldn't have put it in the book but unfortunately I have," he said.

"He has a lot of rumours in his life and you could probably write a whole book on the rumours of Wayne Carey but for me, I just want to put it on the table right now, that was rumour and innuendo.

"I apologised to him and he accepted that, which was fantastic. He wished me luck for this week and he also wished the club well and hoped they get the win, for not only me but for our football club.

"He's my premiership captain. I think our relationship is good, so hopefully it stays that way as well, but again, I apologised to him and said I was sorry I put that in the book."

Harvey, who will be interviewed by Carey after the game on Channel Seven should North beat the Saints, said he had not been sure what to expect before taking the phone call.

"It could have went either way but Wayne being Wayne, he accepted my apology really well and like I said, I was on the phone to him for 15 or 20 minutes.

"He said he was disappointed and I totally understand where he was coming from and that's why I apologised and I'm so thankful that he accepted that.

"The rest of the conversation was based around 'hopefully we can get a win' and 'enjoy the week', he wished me luck for the week as well.

"He said enjoy it, that I deserve it, and it was a really good conversation."
