Two operations have resulted in the arrest of over two dozen people, the seizure of a large quantity of drugs and the impounding of almost a million and a half dollars worth of property.
Mount Isa District Crime/Support Services Detective-Inspector Chris Hodgman said these were the outcomes after Mount Isa detectives in conjunction with the State Crimes Command Drug and Serious Crimes group closed two operations in Mount Isa on Tuesday morning.
These are Operation North Caliper and Operation Oscar Lake.
“Operation North Caliper and Operation Oscar Lake commenced in 2015 targetting the unlawful trafficking of four different types of dangerous drugs,” Detective-Inspector Hodgman said.
“They are methamphetamines, cocaine, MDMA (methylenedioxy-methamphetamine) and cannabis.”
Detective-Inspector Hodgman said the two operations concluded on Tuesday with a number of search warrants executed in Mount Isa addresses and an address in Cairns.
“About 60 officers from Cairns, Townsville, Brisbane and Mount Isa were involved with special assistance from the Drug Dog Detection Unit in Brisbane.
“About 26 people have been charged with a total of 74 offences including 16 charges of unlawfully carrying on the business of trafficking in a dangerous drug.”
Many of those are expected to appear in Mount Isa Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Detective-Inspector Hodgman said a 37-year-old man from the Cairns suburb of Smithfield who was detained in Cairns will also attend Cairns Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
“During the investigation a total of 151 grams of methamphetamines was seized as well as 1.5 kilograms of cannabis,” Detective-Inspector Hodgman said.
“The property to the value of $1.45 million is the subject of restraint.”
