Isa Rodeo Manager Natalie Flecker said she expected strong interest from Australia’s best cow boys and cow girls, given that this year’s prize money was being increased by $30,000.
This increase takes the total winnings on offer to $230,000 in cash and buckles.
She said the Isa Rodeo Open Bull Ride prize money would increase by $10,000, with cowboys competing for more than $30,000 in prize money. The winner would also receive an additional $4000 cash bonus and trophy buckle.
The Open Saddlebronc and Steer Wrestling prize money has each been increased by a further $5000.
The Open Breakaway Roping prize money would increase by $2500 to bring it up to $10,000.
There is also an invitation-only over 40s Bull Ride with $3500 prize money.
Among those confirmed to take part is champion American bull rider Steve Woolsey
Woolsey who lives in Payson, Utah, exploded onto the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association scene in 2005, finishing second in the bull riding average race at his first National Finals Rodeo and second in the world standings, aged just 18.
He also set a rookie record for most money won in bull riding and saddle bronc riding en route to being named the PRCA overall and bull riding rookie of the year.
Steven, now aged 30, was seriously injured the following year, which saw him miss a year of the circuit. He recovered and went on to prove his early promise – as a seven-time USA National Finals Rodeo qualifier and the 2010 Championship Bull Riding (CBR) Las Vegas Champion. He has regularly competed in the CBR World Championships as well as NFR bull riding.
He is among more than 600 registrations expected for three days of world-class rodeo action.
The 2016 Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo will be held from August 12 to 14.
