The NSWRL will begin its review of the recent 2-1 series loss to Queensland next week, with a series of recommendations to be presented to the board for their next meeting at the end of August. NSWRL powerbrokers David Trodden and Barrie-Jon Mather will examine all aspects of the Blues' infrastructure and performance with a view to preparing for next year's series.

There have been calls for a return to a selection panel system to assist Daley in compiling his teams, while there has also been speculation about who would replace Fulton should they opt not to go down that path. The most likely outcome is that Daley will choose the team on his own in what will be the final year of his contract.

There was a feeling that, when Daley took the job four years ago, that the former Raiders, Blues and Kangaroos pivot would benefit from having someone with Fulton's experience to bounce ideas off. After the Maroons claimed the 10th series in 11 campaigns, Fulton indicated he would step down from his advisory role to focus on his commitments with Manly, where his responsibilities have increased after becoming the Sea Eagles' head of football.

Fulton will continue to be available to Daley for advice in an unofficial capacity, as the two have a strong relationship from their days as a representative coach and player respectively. But the Blues brains trust don't see the need to provide an official advisor, as Daley is comfortable backing his own judgement after seeking counsel from those he trusts.

One of those men is assistant coach Matt Parish, who is also the coach of Samoa. The pair have a tight bond and it's understood Parish will be retained as an assistant for the next series.

When veteran administrator Brian Canavan, now the NRL's head of football, presented a set of recommendations in 2010 following interviews with 100 key stakeholders, one of them was to do away with the selection panel to ensure the coach got the team he wanted. The NSWRL hierarchy is unlikely to go back to the old selection panel, which used to include Fulton, having previously disbanded it.

There are likely to be few personnel changes, with the number of assistants, consultants and other staffers drastically cut back during the year.

Despite blooding more than half a dozen debutants, Daley will be under pressure to make further changes next year. Veteran Cronulla forward Paul Gallen has ended his interstate career, leaving Daley to select a new captain. Long-serving players including Robbie Farah and James Tamou will be under pressure to retain their places as the next generation push for selection.

With two games scheduled for Suncorp Stadium, the Maroons will again head into the 2017 series as heavy favourites.
