In a race governed by the tactics of jockey Damien Oliver, Lord Of The Sky showed just how much natural talent he's got with his comfortable win in the listed event.

Trainer Robbie Laing said that it had been a long way back for Lord Of The Sky after he bowed a tendon in this race last year and his future was at the crossroads.

"It's been a lot of work to get him back and it wasn't only the injury, it was just getting his racing style straightened out because we know how much natural speed he's got, it's just about getting him to settle," Laing said.

"The important fact is he has wonderful ability, we all know that, it was just a matter of him settling into a rhythm and sprinting home, and that's what he did today."

Lord Of The Sky is also being looked at as a possible stallion, with the trainer hinting that European interests are keen in him.

"They'd like to see him race in England and France but firstly they tell me he's got to win at group 1 level before going off to stud," he said.

It was an excellent riding performance by Oliver who nursed the stallion to the lead and, once in front, was able to control the pace and dictate the field.

"Robbie had told me the horse had been very relaxed in his track work and I could feel that by the way he settled and kicked off the bend which made him hard to beat," Oliver said.

"He's always had plenty of natural ability and he showed that today."

Lord Of The Sky started at $8 and scored easily from Fast 'N' Rocking ($3.50 favourite) with Mahuta battling on well to be third at $5.50.

Lord Of The Sky will now head for the early weight-for-age races in the next month before making a possible overseas trip.

Fast 'N' Rocking was the victim of having no early speed but still got home well and will more than likely follow the same path as Lord Of The Sky.

In other news, senior office bearers at the Melbourne Racing Club have been given another six-year term after a knife's edge vote at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday.

However, Racing Minister Martin Pakula is yet to ratify the slender victory by chairman Mike Symons.

After government intervention, the Melbourne Racing Club was forced to stage a second vote, with Symons winning by just 44 votes or 50.8 per cent of support from the members.

The first election some months ago had to be abandoned after a number of members were not notified of the change to six-year terms. Those in favour of the extension of time for office bearers numbered 1283 while those against were 1239.
