Event organiser Liza Dowler said the breakfast held the Thursday before the Mount Isa Rodeo set the tone for the rest of the festivities.
Speakers do not have to read their own work. They can also recite other bush poems. Mount Isa’s Zonta Club president Kate Glover said they could also read their own stories about the outback.
The breakfast’s master of ceremonies will be Keith Douglas – a Cloncurry bush poet and writer who competed in the Australian Poetry Slam state final in 2014.
Ms Dowler said the breakfast was not about judging or competition. “It gives budding writers in the town to show their work,” she said. “It’s not about being judged. It’s about coming and expressing yourself.”
The breakfast will be held at Terrace Gardens on Thursday, August 11, from 6.30am. Tickets are $35 for adults and $25 for under 12-years. They can be bought from Isa Styles or MacRae News.
