The organisation Mount Isa Entertainment and Tourism Venues (MIETV), which runs the local tourism centre, will use the gift to drive to tourist destinations in the region.
This would allow staff to see firsthand the places they educate tourists on.
It would also be used as a promotional billboard.
When I look at a sponsored vehicle it says a lot. It says that region is really loved because we do have businesses who are so supporting.”
- MIETV business manager
The car was given by Bell & Moir Toyota.
The dealer principal Lee Pulman said the new car would be given to MIETV for 12 months. “If things work out they get use another for 12 months,” he said.
“It’s about locals supporting locals. By investing in the tourist centre here it’s only going to help Mount Isa and the economy.”
MIETV business manager Ange Matveyeff and tourism manager Kylie Rixon will also travel to Brisbane for two weeks in the car in October and November. On the way they stop at the Queensland Tourism Awards in Windorah.
They will also visit other tourist centres and make sales trips. The promotion on the car will imprint the message that there are tourism experiences in Mount Isa.
However, there will be data collected on the effectiveness of the car’s advertising, and it would be surveyed. “Everything we do we like to measure and provide evidence rather than anecdotal,” Ms Matveyeff said.
Ms Matveyeff said the centre was appreciative of the car.
“We can’t thank them (Bell & Moir) enough. The benefit to Mount Isa we believe is very substantial.
“When I look at a sponsored vehicle it says a lot.
“It says that region is really loved because we do have businesses who are so supporting. We can drive to tourist destinations in the region, therefore allowing staff to see firsthand the places they educate tourists on.”
Ms Rixon said she was proud that they had the trust of a local business.
“We’re very proud they have confidence in us.
“They have a genuine desire for improvements for Mount Isa.”
