The main course is within sight but a few weeks away as the warmth begins to return, the quality of horse steps up.

Superstar Winx is set to make her raceday return in the Warwick Stakes next week and raft of other stars to follow but Saturday is as important for Waller's lesser lights in building into their springs

Waller always talks of the stable not being the star, rather those on the way up.

The next generation of the Waller team will be on show on Saturday. Cosmic Cube has joined his team from the David Vandyke yard and starts his preparation in the Spring Preview.

Since coming from New Zealand, Cosmic Cube has shown up first-up twice, winning the National Sprint in the autumn before being runner-up in the Doncaster Prelude.

"He looks a really nice horse. This is a long way off where we want to be with him," Waller said. "We would hope that he would be a contender for a race like the Epsom."

The Epsom might be a target for Cosmic Cube but Waller's other runner in the race, Sadler's Lake, doesn't have as lofty goals for him.

"He was poor last prep and we just want to get him back racing well," he said.

Waller also likes the chances of another stable acquisition in Auckland Cup placegetter Sacred Master, which is part of a quartet from the yard in the Premier's Cup Prelude.

"I thought his first-up run [for the stable] was excellent and the extra distance will suit," Waller said. "The barrier of 12 is a little bit awkward and it will be hard for him to win if he was to go back from there.

"At the same time I'm mindful that I don't want him to have a hard run and sit three and four wide and be running a grand final on Saturday.

"We have to give him a winning chance and to do that we have to put him into the race but the barrier makes make tricky."

Sacred Master got back to last in the Winter Challenge at his first Australian start, suffered interference and course wide but found the line hard and the step up to 1800m should be in his favour.
