There had been suggestions the Kangaroos board would meet on Wednesday night to decide the futures of some players, but coach Brad Scott said such reports were not true and claimed the club was focused only on the next two matches.

"We do have a board meeting, but senior players' futures are not on the agenda," he said. "We have got a focus on the next two games of the home-and-away season and, hopefully, a finals series. We will address all those issues when we need to, but it's not right now."

Scott said former players Wayne Schwass and Wayne Carey were entitled to their opinions that Harvey should retire at year's end, but said discussions about that were not happening now.

"I don't think anyone is given that choice [when to retire]. You look at any players at any club over a period of time," he said.  "I understand that questions are going to come about 'Boomer' and our senior players, but other than today I am not going to talk about it. I'll talk about it when we've got something to tell you."

Scott said the Kangaroos were not looking over their shoulder at Melbourne's chances of displacing them in the eight and, instead, were focused on beating Sydney at Blundstone arena on Saturday.

"Our view is that we are looking to play our best footy and to make an impact in September and it's not just about getting there," he said. "That would insinuate that we are happy to finish eighth. We are not happy to finish eighth and once round 23 is done, there's a week off before eight clubs get to launch an assault on the finals and that's what we are looking at.

"But we are going to have to play some pretty good footy in the next two weeks to get that opportunity.

"We are just going to keep working on it and I think that every session we do we make improvements. The disappointing thing about our footy this year is that we have improved in some areas and then regressed in others. We really have got to put it all together at once."

North's injury list has not helped since they won the first nine matches of the season, but accidents like the one suffered by Sam Gibson in the club gym on Tuesday have added insult to injury.

Scott said Gibson had to go to hospital and was still "pretty sore" after a barbell slipped and hit him in the head.

"He's got a broken nose and a pretty nasty gash on his face as well," Scott said.

"The fortunate thing is that it happened here and happened with our club doctor here, but he was sent to hospital just to rule out any other facial fractures. He's a bit uncomfortable, but we are still really optimistic he could play this week.

"Probably the most disappointing thing for Sam is that he has a super model girlfriend or wife and he had aspirations to take on a modelling career himself and he's got no hope now with the way he looks."

In selection news, North expect injured duo Ben Brown and Scott Thompson to be considered for Saturday's game, although Jarrad Waite is still another week away.

"He (Waite) is moving really well, he's ahead of where we thought he'd be at this point," Scott said.
