The new shop, Milly & Rose is a vintage and homewares store that located among other boutique outlets on Miles Street, ideally situated for residents to have easy access when shopping.
The shop will stock restored and recycled vintage furniture with a country feel but don’t think that you won’t find anything you like if shabby chic is not your style.
Milly & Rose will not just be about furniture. Ms Matthews has sourced homewares, accessories and the Australian-made, environmentally friendly Murchison & Hume cleaning products.
Owner of Milly & Rose, Ms Matthews, said the shop would be constantly changing and evolving as she experiments with new styles and paints.
“Growing up I always dreamt my home would appear in a House and Garden magazine,” she said.
“Living in Mount Isa I realised how hard it was to source good quality yet individual pieces for my home it was with this realisation that I begun to develop the concept of Milly and Rose.”
Ms Matthews is hoping her new business will also be a source of inspiration for other imaginative homeowners. Milly & Rose stocks a selection of chalk paint powder, waxes and accessories so that everyone has the opportunity to get creative in their homes
“Paint is the best way to transform your home. It is inexpensive and if you change your mind you can do it again!”
Where possible the shop will stock Australian products including items from up and coming designers and home-based businesses such as local artist Ozlem Yeni and the incredibly popular Barkly Belle hide jewellery designed and made on May Downs Station.

“I think it is important to support our local suppliers and Ma and Pa businesses,” Ms Matthews said.
“It isn’t always possible, particularly in a remote area like Mount Isa but we miss out on so many amazing things simply because they aren’t readily available.”
Local suppliers interested in stocking their products at Milly & Rose can contact Emily Matthews.
Milly & Rose is open Tuesday to Sunday at Shop 2, 31 Miles Street.
