The library held a two hour session on Monday evening where kids were invited to come in fancy dress, with many coming as their favourite book character.
The celebration included arts and crafts, games and a guest speaker Alan Rackham from Outback at Isa about fossils found at Riversleigh World Heritage Site.
Afterwards there was story time and arts and crafts where the children made a diorama with dinosaurs, rocks and a tree, before the night ended with pizza and juice.
Book week in 2016 is from August 20-26 and is organised by the Children’s Book Council of Australia.
During this time schools, libraries, booksellers, authors, illustrators and children celebrate Australian children's literature.
