Noah, 32, stepped into the biggest shoes of satirical comedy last September when he replaced Jon Stewart as host of Comedy Central's The Daily Show.

And while that transition has been met with mixed reviews, Noah is a natural on stage and certainly appears more comfortable in such a setting.

The obligatory local observations start his Brisbane show on Tuesday night, including the Customs experience, which is known to be the strictest in the world, particularly when it comes to perishables.

Not that he'd have it any other way.

His eagerness to discover the world shines through the entire 90-minute performance and his observations on race, which have been a staple of his for years, don't miss the mark.

After all, he is a black South African living in the most multicultural city on Earth.

Language is a source of intense fascination for Noah, who was raised in South Africa, has travelled the world as a comic and is now based in New York due to his Daily Show commitments.

Accents, especially, play a huge part in shaping Noah's worldview and mimicry is a central plank of his show.

Noah treads the fine line without ever slipping into caricature and, rare for most non-Australians, comes dangerously close to nailing the Aussie accent too. Close, but not quite there, mate.

But always – always – there is a point to that mimicry. There are no cheap laughs at a Trevor Noah show.

And he's well travelled, too.

On a recent trip, he tells the large Brisbane Convention and Exihibition Centre crowd, he came across no black people in Scotland.

He didn't have a problem with that – there hadn't ever really been black people there to begin with.

But when he makes the same observation in Australia, it exposes the Elephant In The Room.

"Where are the Aborigines?" he asks of Australians, who inform him the more politically correct term is "indigenous people".

Odd, Noah opines, that it's the language that many have a problem with and not the fact the original Australians had been all but forced into the periphery of Australian life.

More than once, he puts up a mirror to an Australian audience that might not always like what it sees.

And that's what makes comedians like Noah so important. Comedy is at its best when it confronts the audience with uncomfortable truths.

They're uncomfortable truths we must all confront, but isn't it better when they're delivered with a dose of sugar?

That, right there, is why he was the perfect choice to replace Stewart on The Daily Show. It's a role that he's sure to grow in to.

And his stage show is well worth a look.
