The Mount Isa Amateur Netball Association held their junior grand finals at Wellington Park on Wednesday with Matariki sealing a win over Pumas in division one.

Matariki Juniors started the first quarter strong with shooters Charlize Osborne and Charlize Potini sealing seven goals over the Pumas two.
Pumas had warmed up in the second quarter with shooters Mikaela Staunton and Tara Cherian shooting six goals. Matariki also sealed six goals leaving the score,13-8 with Matariki in the lead.
Into the second half Matariki lost their pace only scoring five goals. Pumas took advantage and put another nine points on the board. Matariki lead by one point, 18-17.
The final quarter both teams picked up the pace but it was Matariki who sealed the victory capitalising off of Pumas mistakes. The final score was 24-21.
Matariki co-coach, Wai Emery, said after Matariki lost to Pumas in the semi-finals, Matariki were determined to win this one.
“The girls knew how hard Pumas were to play after the semi-final and knew where they went wrong. Therefore the girls knew what not to do,” Emery said.
“Matariki have been consistent all season and have shown strength in their shooting.
“I think the girls shooting was on point on Wednesday night which was great to see. But Pumas also started giving away a few penalties which we benefited from.”
This was the second year in a row that Pumas have come runner up in the division one grand final.
Matariki Juniors Ferns also had a grand final win in division four against Junior Panthers.
The first quarter saw Matariki goal shooter Khyara Tamati and goal attack Anaya Hemi put two points on the board. Panthers also sealed two goals. Score 2-2.
Matariki dominated the second quarter scoring another two goals. Score Matariki 4, Panthers 2.
Junior Panthers fought back in the third quarter with goal attack Kaitlyn Dyer scoring three goals. Matariki also scored another three.
Neither team scored in the final quarter. Final score was Matariki 7, Panthers 5.
