His QPS colleagues were not going to allow him to leave quietly, even if that’s what he hoped for.
They wanted to show their respect and admiration for a boss and colleague who led by example.
The retiring Senior Sergeant left the building to the sound of the bagpipes in what is traditionally known in the police service as a ‘piping ceremony’.
Even then Senior Sergeant Henderson was two minutes late to his own farewell, delaying that final moment in leaving the job he loved.
But when Senior Sergeant Henderson left from the back door there were hugs, handshakes, and salutes, including from Superintendent Kev Guteridge, and from Northern Region Assistant Police Commissioner Paul Taylor, who visited the city to salute the station’s outgoing officer-in-charge.
