Last weeks’ defeat of the Palaszczuk Government’s proposed changes to Queensland’s vegetation management framework was the culmination of a strong five month, grass-roots campaign against these unfair and unnecessary amendments.

I would like to thank AgForce Queensland for its commitment to raising awareness of the issue across Queensland and working hard to help correct the dishonest misinformation and blatant untruths peddled by Labor and the Greens during the debate.
I would like to thank my LNP colleagues for their support for me as the Shadow Natural Resources Minister while campaigning across Queensland and for their own efforts in their electorates, as we defended and advocated for the merits of our 2013 reforms.
I would also like to thank the Member for Mount Isa, the Member for Dalrymple and the Member for Cook for joining with the LNP to defeat the Palaszczuk Government’s unjust and unbalanced bill.
It was a critical issue for regional and rural Queensland.
There are many other people and organisations that should be thanked for assisting with this campaign, but space will prevent me from listing them all.
Safe to say, we could not have prevailed without the time, effort and resources that you contributed.
Sadly, we’ve already seen Jackie Trad, Steven Miles and the green activists make it clear they won’t rest until they are successful in stripping away property rights, compromising legal protections and jeopardising future agricultural productivity.
We must remain vigilant to guard our farmers and landholders against the ideological attacks from Labor and the Greens.
I can assure you that I and the LNP will be standing firm against them, but we will need your continued support.
Andrew Cripps MP
Shadow Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Northern Development
Get active now
When was the last time you took 60 minutes to get active?
If it was today – well done. If it was last week – there’s work to be done. If you can’t remember – then take this as a wakeup call!
It is time to shape up, slim down and get moving for a healthier, happier lifestyle.
1. Stand up for your health. One in three Queensland adults spend their weekdays being sedentary. It’s important to schedule in time to be active. At work, implement simple strategies to break up prolonged periods of sitting by taking micro walks or have standing meetings. After work, go for a walk or run, or take part in a fitness class. We recommend adults aim for 60 minutes of moderate intensity activity every day and children aim for at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity.
2. Friends that sweat together, stay together. When it comes to getting active, research shows having a friend or partner exercise with you can keep you motivated and accountable. Find someone you can trust and team up for a healthier future. Support from a peer can offer positive reinforcement and push you to achieve your goals. Whether you walk together, run together, lift weights or do yoga together – every bit counts.
3. Switch it up. For healthy exercise routines, it’s important to diversify your workouts. Include aerobic exercises like running and cycling to increase your heart rate, anaerobic exercises like weight training and muscle strengthening, and exercises that increase your flexibility. Get creative and plan your workout schedule in advance to keep it varied and exciting. This will challenge you and keep you feeling energised each week.
The price of physical inactivity is far weightier than you might realise and can severely affect your health in the short and long term.
Make a pledge this week to take small steps towards a healthier, happier future.
