Journeyman ruckman Cameron Wood has retired, while former Sydney Swan Matthew Dick and youngster Jayden Foster have been delisted.

The trio join Michael Jamison and Andrew Walker in leaving Ikon Park, with the veterans both retiring earlier in the month.

Wood, 29, had an eventful AFL career, spending three years at the Brisbane Lions after being taken at pick 18 in the 2004 draft. After playing 16 games in three seasons at the Lions he was traded to Collingwood as part of the deal that sent former No.1 draft pick Travis Johnstone to Queensland. Wood played 48 games in five years at the Magpies - largely acting as the understudy to Darren Jolly - before being let go by the Pies. He spent a year at VFL club Williamstown in 2013 before being picked up as a rookie by the Blues, where he played 24 games, but none in 2016 under Brendon Bolton.

Dick, 21, played six games at the Blues in 2015 after previously spending time on the Swans' list. Foster, 21, didn't play a game after he was drafted by Carlton at pick 63 of the 2014 national draft.

Blues head of football Andrew McKay praised the players for their efforts.

"Both Matthew and Jayden were consistent in the VFL this year and should be commended for their dedication and professionalism over the past couple of years at Carlton," McKay told the club's website.

"We also wish Cameron well following his decision to hang up the boots. He managed 88 senior games over his career at Brisbane, Collingwood and Carlton and we thank him for his contribution to the Blues since he arrived at the end of 2013.

"We sincerely wish Cameron, Matthew and Jayden every success for their future endeavours."

The Blues still have a sizeable group of players out of contract. While veteran Kade Simpson is set to go on next year, the Blues are yet to make announcements on Dennis Armfield, Dylan Buckley, Blaine Boekhorst, Dillon Viojo-Rainbow, Sam Rowe, Ciaran Sheehan, Mark Whiley, Clem Smith, Nick Graham, Andrejs Everitt, Zach Tuohy and Matthew Wright.

Former Adelaide forward Wright, and Casboult, who finished first and equal-second respectively in the Blues' goalkicking this year, are both expected to be at the club next year.

The Blues, along with Essendon and St Kilda, have been linked to Jaeger O'Meara, the former Gold Coast Sun who has quit the club. But Blues' chief executive Stephen Trigg insists they will not hand over their first-round pick for a midfielder who has not played senior football for two years because of injury.

"I think there are a few things that remain unclear about that scenario ... be it medically, what's in his mind. We made an enquiry about him mid-season," he said.

"We are interested, obviously, because he is an elite young player but there are some complications there that everyone knows about - his knee and his fitness and what risk that represents. Therefore, what is the cost and benefit on it?"

The Bombers could attempt to secure O'Meara through the pre-season draft.
