NWHHS Director of Mental Health & Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATODS), Sandra Kennedy, says the two-day ASIST workshop is open to anyone 16 or older and is the most widely used suicide prevention workshop in the world, by both professionals and the general public.
“This workshop will help people recognise people at risk of suicide, talk to them, hear their stories and understand their situation, as well as help them stay safe with a life-affirming intervention.
“We know that anyone can experience thoughts of suicide, but by giving participants the skills to help friends, family members, colleagues and clients, we can ensure our communities are safer from suicide,” Ms Kennedy said.
The two day event is on from 8.30am to 4pm daily at Tarabada House, 21 Isa Street, Mount Isa (off road parking behind QML).
To register contact the ATODS on 47449100 or email: ATODSMountIsa@health.qld.gov.au for a registration form. Registrations close Thursday, September 1.
