Brown, part of the Magpies' 2010 line-up and a long-term part of their backline, could cross as a restricted free agent.

While Brown may remain with Collingwood, he shapes as a replacement for Michael Firrito in North's backline. A move by Brown could help the Pies bring in some of the draft picks they may need to get other deals done.

Collingwood do not currently hold a first-round draft pick, having traded it last year as part of the Adam Treloar deal.

Their compensation for Brown would depend on the size of his new contract, while they could move on at least two senior players in search of more picks.

Travis Cloke requested a trade on Monday, while ruckman Jarrod Witts has been linked to both Gold Coast and the Brisbane Lions.

Collingwood has been linked to Gold Coast midfielder Jaeger O'Meara, as well as Greater Western Sydney's Will Hoskin-Elliott who is contracted on significant money for next year but  spent much of this season  in the NEAFL.

Collingwood may need to bring additional picks in to ensure they keep enough draft "points" aside for father-son duo Josh Daicos and Callum Brown.

In other trade news, Richmond is well placed to land the "big fish" the club has long sought.

After narrowly missing out on Treloar last year, the Tigers will work with Gold Coast to negotiate a deal for midfielder Dion Prestia.

Prestia has accepted a five-year deal, believed to be in excess of $700,00 per year, to play for the Tigers. Richmond hold pick six this year, however the Suns may turn their focus more to players than draft picks. The Tigers have delisted Liam McBean and Adam Marcon, and are open to working forward Ben Lennon into a trade.

Lennon, a contracted former first-round draft pick, told the club this week he was interested in a fresh start elsewhere. He struggled with glandular fever, concussion and injuries to his hip, shoulder and ankle this year.

St Kilda shapes as the probable new home for Giants midfielder Jack Steele, who is likely to seek out greener pastures.

The Suns are yet to be advised of where Jaeger O'Meara, who quit the club last week, would like to be traded to. The club has threatened to send O'Meara to the draft if not offered adequate compensation for the former Rising Star winner.

However many have been told that O'Meara only wants to play in Melbourne and that he will spend some time assessing which club would be the best fit before making a decision.
