His heroic donation of bone marrow to his 10-year-old brother Kael, who is diagnosed with myelodisplastic syndrome and is in Brisbane Hospital, will be given within two weeks. 

Their mother Tennille said the syndrome causes AML leukaemia, a severe type caused by chemotherapy. 

“So he (Kael) is going to have a bone marrow transplant, hopefully that will fix that. If it doesn’t we give him another one, and another one,” she said. 

Kael may also need a liver transplant caused by disease from treatments. 

Brynn was happy to donate the 600 millilitres of bone marrow in an operation set for Monday, September 12, as long as there were no needles. He already had four needles recently. 

As siblings they tended to fight often, so as a mother it was good to watch them support each other when they were sad, Mrs Lovelock said. 

He would feel sore after the operation but that would not slow him down. “Brynn is one of those kids that keep on going,” she said. 

The family is now based at Leukaemia House. Kael will need to stay in Brisbane for a year while he has treatment. 

Kael was diagnosed with myelodisplastic syndrome five weeks ago. Mrs Lovelock, a teachers aid, was in her art class when the oncologist rang and told her the bad news. 

“It’s heartbreaking,” Mrs Lovelock said. “To go through it all over again (for the third time).

“At least this time we know what we’re doing. 

“It is hard and there’s days you just want to break down and cry because of lack of sleep.” 

Kael has faced long term stays in hospital before, but now he is older he was worried he might not return to Mount Isa to see his friends again. “That absolutely breaks your heart,” Mrs Lovelock said. 

Grandfather Peter Roberts said on an online fundraising page that Kael has had cancer twice. “This will be his fourth long term stay in Brisbane,” Mr Roberts said.
