AFTER almost 18 years of careful planning, scraping together donated funds and organising, the new John Campbell Miles memorial clock will land on Mount Isa soil at the end of next month.

Clock campaigner and resident Bob Keoghan said illness had held up his project to seek community donations for the clock but "everything is back to normal and I'm ready to fight".
Mr Keoghan spent the last 18 months battling for community and local government support to replace the clock at its former site on the corner of Miles Street and Rodeo Drive.
He said a Mount Isa engineering firm, a crane hire business, an electrician and an electrical store had agreed to perform all construction work in fitting the new clock, arriving from America next month.
"We're short about $15,000 so we're asking for community and business support to raise the rest of the money," he said.
"If anyone donates $100 they can choose to have their name on an honour role, which will go under the clock at this stage."
Mr Keoghan said he started his clock campaign in 2010, gaining more than 1200 signatures on a petition.
"I started complaining to Rotary about it in 2005 after it was pulled down, rather than restored.
"Recently we got all the rubbish taken off the top so it's ready for the new clock to go in."
Mr Keoghan said the new clock, sourced from America, had a GPS system and electronic chimes.
He said all Mount Isa banks were set up to receive donations through direct debit to the MICDA clock appeal or people could personally donate at Mount Isa Community Development Association.
