Steven, 26, unsurprisingly won his third Trevor Barker award, becoming the 10th player in the club's history to win three best and fairest awards. The midfielder joins Australian Football Hall of Famers Wels Eicke, Darrel Baldock and Robert Harvey as well as Jack Davis, Bill Cubbins, Jim Ross, Nathan Burke, Lenny Hayes and Nick Riewoldt as three-time winners.

The speedy on-baller has now won three of the past four St Kilda best and fairest counts, having previously claimed the award in 2013 and 2015. His career-high 615 disposals for the season placed him 14th in the AFL, while he was also 20th for kicks, 17th for handballs, second for inside 50s and 13th for clearances.

Steven won the award with 172 votes, 15 clear of defender Jarryn Geary. Captain and six-time best and fairest Nick Riewoldt was third with 153 votes, with veteran Leigh Montagna and midfielder Jack Newnes filling the remaining spots in the top five. Midfielder Seb Ross, ruckman Tom Hickey and forward Tim Membrey were all rewarded for breakout seasons with top-10 finishes.

Former Sydney player Membrey was also named the club's best emerging player for a campaign in which he led the club's goalkicking with 44 majors from 17 games. Geary also claimed the Lenny Hayes Player trademark award, while fellow backman Sam Gilbert was named best clubman.

Midfielder David Armitage joined club doctor Ian Stone in receiving life membership. Out-of-contract defender Sean Dempster joined Armitage in finishing equal 10th. The Swans premiership player said this week that he wants to play again in 2017.

Another veteran - Sam Fisher - is in limbo after the Saints decided to keep his playing future open. Fisher, himself a dual best and fairest, is uncontracted for 2017.

"At this stage, both parties will continue discussions ahead of the upcoming trade period, after which we will be in a better position to make a more informed decision about the future," Saints chief operating officer Ameet Bains said.
