The key forward told the Magpies earlier in the week that he would like to be traded to another club after 12 seasons and 246 games, despite still having a year to run on his contract at the Holden Centre.

Cloke was dropped on three occasions this season and could only manage 17 goals from 13 games.

However, the dual All-Australian believes a move to the Whitten Oval would be a win-win for both player and club.

"I've enjoyed watching their footy over the last two years (and) to see how 'Bevo' (coach Luke Beveridge) has changed their whole football club around," Cloke told The Footy Show.

"I actually haven't spoken to 'Bevo' or whatnot as such but I'm sure in the coming weeks I will.

"Obviously they've got their own finals campaign at the moment and want to do very well so I will watch as a keen supporter, as most will, and if that's where I do end up, they play a very exciting brand of footy and I feel like I could improve their side but also they can get the best out of me and we can work something out there."

Cloke said the Bulldogs weren't the only club who had been in contact with his management.

Richmond have also shown interest and Cloke acknowledged the romantic aspect of a shift to Punt Road Oval given his father David played 219 of his 333 career games with the Tigers and also won two premierships with them.

"A little bit of history involved (at Richmond) ... it would be a nice storytale [sic] I guess," Cloke said.

"I want to be involved in a winning culture, a winning club and that's going to be pretty important in my decision going forward."

Cloke didn't rule out an interstate move but would prefer to stay in Melbourne.

Despite his indifferent form, the 29-year-old didn't believe the game had passed him by.

"I still believe I've still got plenty of good football in me," Cloke said.

"Skill execution this year probably hasn't worked for us, no, but I still believe there's a future at whatever club from 2017 forward for myself."

Cloke revealed the third time he was dropped by coach Nathan Buckley this season hurt him the most.

"Obviously I was very disappointed to get told with three games to go in the year that I was getting dropped," he said.

"I thought I had been playing some reasonably good football helping the success that we actually had in the second half of the season, so that hurt a lot.

"I put a few things on the table, so did he (Buckley) ... over the last few days we've had our review meetings and had a few conversations with him after then about what I was thinking, where I felt I sat in the football club and obviously he let me know where he thought I sat as well."

Cloke had mixed emotions about leaving Collingwood, describing his trade request as a hard decision to make but a good one "for all involved".

"The Collingwood Football Club has been a massive part of my life and always will be," he said.

"I didn't want to be playing VFL football ... it was my choice to step away from that 2017 contract.

"My friendship with 'Bucks' is always going to be the same ... 'Bucks' is a great fella, we've always got along."
