Wow, another month has flown by, and I am amazed still at the number and quality of events that have happened, and are still to happen. From great Race Meetings, to the Red Dirt Relay for Life, Dajarra Campdraft, Rodeo and Gymkhana, PCYC Fight Night and Breast Friends Day, there is never a dull moment.

To top that off, the Cloncurry Eagles Rugby League team won the Grand Final over a determined Normanton Stingers side. The awesome effort of the Committee and Coach has created a team environment much more than just football. I am sure the community shares my support and we look forward to seeing the club and players develop even more.
There has been more positive news for both the mining and cattle industries. Construction is proceeding well at MMG Dugald River and the $800 million investment in Ernest Henry Mine by Evolution Mining shows great confidence in our area. More rain across the Shire and continued strong prices provide a great boost for the beef producers.
October will see our new executive staff begin work, and I look forward to Ben, Chief Executive Officer and Michael, Director Works and Environmental Services and joining Jo, Director Corporate Services and Karen, Director Community Development in working towards achieving our vision for the Shire.
Minister for State Development and Natural Resources and Mines, Anthony Lynham officially opened the upgraded Cloncurry Airport Terminal and reiterated the important role that Cloncurry has in the economic viability of the State. This is evident with the Minister’s recent announcement of the opening of a further 102km2 of land for explorations.
Council is currently very busy with staff and contractors completing flood damage road works around the Shire. Crews are currently laying a new bitumen seal on Duchess Road, completing upgrade works at the Sewerage Treatment Plant and maintenance works at the Water Treatment Plant. The Councillors and I are hosting a Community Forum on 12 October 2016. This will be the first Community Forum Council has held so please come along and hear more about the projects being completed, what we are planning to do and there will also be the opportunity for the community to let us know their ideas for the future.
