In perfect conditions for Mountain Bike racing 38 senior and junior competitors to the course which consisted of one loop of the seven kilometre course for junior riders and three loops for Open Age competitors.
There was also a division for riders under the junior category, this group completed one loop of a two kilometre course with parents able to ride with their children to offer encouragement and support.
In the Open Age Mens division Les Rayner scorched the rugged terrain in one hour and two minutes closely followed by Steve Jenje and one of several Cloncurry riders, Mace Bennett in third place, course designer Dudley Fenwick mastered his own course to come home in fourth place a mere nine minutes behind the winner.
The first female across the finish line was Tammy Green in one hour twenty eight minutes, Belinda Rayner and Lyn Roughan followed her into the finish six minutes and thirty minutes later respectively.
The number of competitors in the junior field was very encouraging as like any sport, juniors are the future of Mountain Biking. Darcy Green, Lucas Marino and Holly Green filled first to third places only two minutes apart with Green completing the seven kilometre journey in thirty two minutes, a time that proved to be faster than a few of the senior riders.
The mini racers completed their course in a little over twelve minutes with Dean Brien leading Josie Green and Mia Brien across the finish line.
Stack City MTB president, Reece Cooper, was delighted with the number of competitors for the first local event and paid tribute to course technician Dudley Fenwick for the quality of the course and how well it presented on race day.
