Queensland School Sport highlighted Denzil Perkins was the first North West representative U12s boy to make Queensland U12s team since Scott Prince.
Denzil started playing touch three years ago for the local Maulers team and his passion grew from there. He was selected for the North West team where he competed at Roma in August. He was then one of 12 boys selected from 144, to join the Queensland team.
Now preparing for his trip to Brisbane, Denzil will meet his Queensland team mates and train together before the competition. He will then travel to Perth on October 23 where he will compete in the National Under 12s Touch Championships.
When asked if he could become the next Scott Prince he said, “I wouldn’t put it like that. It gives me another opportunity to play the best I can with the best in Australia.”
“I need to thank my coach Kylie Hahipene. She travels from Cloncurry twice a week to train me and she has been a big impact on me making the Queensland team.”
Scott Prince congratulated Denzil on Twitter saying: “Yeh Denzil. Congrats on your efforts so far. Good luck at the Touch Football Aus Nationals - one to watch.”
