Across Queensland, ARENA is supporting six large-scale solar generation projects that will provide 300 megawatts of renewable energy generation capacity.
These projects will also boost investment by $500 million and create more than 500 direct jobs and hundreds more indirect jobs in regional Queensland.
My Government promised to establish a large-scale renewable energy industry – to create new jobs and diversify our economy.
With the projects set to generate enough renewable energy to power 120,000 homes, we have truly transitioned from the Sunshine State to the Solar State.
The competitiveness of so many Queensland projects in the ARENA process has been assisted by my government’s financial support, which has increased to 150 MW.
The Kidston Solar Project has been successful in securing State Government assistance through a long-term revenue contract.

Emergency Preparedness Week
For readers who lived through Brisbane’s 2011 floods, Bundaberg’s 2012 flooding, and Central Queensland’s 2014 Cyclone Marcia it’ll be no surprise that a staggering one in three of people face at least one natural disaster in their lifetime. And after the disaster hits, sadly there’s one thing most will also experience.
Regret about not being better prepared.
In Emergency Preparedness Week, Red Cross calls on Australians to take action now. We want all Australians to be prepared for an emergency, whether a bushfire, cyclone or flood, or a family crisis .
Too many conversations after an emergency begin with “I wish I had…”. People wish they’d taken the kids’ baby photographs; kept their passports safe; upped their insurance; looked in on their neighbours.
For decades, we’ve seen first-hand the trauma, stress, and hardship that disasters bring; things many of us just aren’t prepared for like anxiety, grief and loss, relationship problems, and financial hardship that can go on for many years.
You can’t get back what you’ve lost after an emergency. But you can plan to protect what matters most. And that’s different for everyone. Our free guide can spare people much of the avoidable grief and trauma because we know that the better you are prepared, the better you will cope .

Soft on crime
Queenslanders should be concerned about the Labor Government’s plan to soften the LNP’s tough criminal gang laws.
Labor’s decision has far reaching consequences, and we know bikies are currently recruiting in anticipation of Labor’s soft laws being given the green light.
Police will now have to go through a lengthy court process to get permission to shut clubhouses down.
Annastacia Palaszczuk is willing to roll out the welcome mat for bikies, let them peddle drugs to our kids and allow a return to the lawlessness we witnessed before the LNP introduced the tough laws.
Labor, under Anna Bligh, also talked tough on bikies, but went soft in practice, so we can’t trust the current Palaszczuk Labor Government with this serious responsibility.
It’s a fundamental rule of any government to ensure the safety of its residents.
