It comes after former Victorian Liberal leader Jeff Kennett called the Palaszczuk government "unfit to govern" and said Mr Nicholls' opposition was "weak", "wrong" and "lemming-like" for scrapping the Strong Choices privatisation scheme.

Mr Kennett made the comments after the Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) was on Monday involved in a successful $9.7 billion bid to acquire a 50-year lease of the Port of Melbourne.

QIC was acting as part of a consortium comprising the Future Fund, Global Infrastructure Partners and OMERS.

Former LNP premier Campbell Newman said both sides of politics needed to show "political courage" and reconsider asset sales, according to a News Corp report.

Mr Nicholls said he disagreed entirely with comments from Mr Newman and Mr Kennett.

"Mr Newman is entitled to his opinions, I don't have much of a thought on them one way or the other," he said.

He said the Strong Choices plan taken to the state election was rejected by voters and would not be revisited.

"The previous policy, involving particularly large-scale leasing of assets, has been rejected by the people of Queensland. We won't be revisiting that," he said.

But he did not specifically rule out asset sales in a different form in the future, instead repeating that the previous policy would not be revisited.

Mr Nicholls said the style taken to the previous election was "too combative" and his style was about "taking people on that journey with us".

Treasurer Curtis Pitt defended his government and said Mr Kennett and Mr Newman left a "legacy of policy failures as premiers that Labor has had to actually fix".

"Tim Nicholls was and remains the biggest cheerleader for asset sales there is," Mr Pitt told 612 ABC Brisbane on Tuesday morning.

"Campbell Newman and Tim Nicholls need to concede that Strong Choices have been proven to be the wrong choices and that's why we reject his comments about our government."
