Nearly 300 editions of Mount Isa Mines original in house publication known as MIMAG have been digitised for the National Library of Australia’s online resource, Trove.
Funded by the Mount Isa City Library though a State Library of Queensland grant and with permissions granted by Mount Isa Mines to share the publication, Library Coordinator Astrid Hancock said she was delighted to see the completion of the project achieved, after beginning enquiries in mid-2015.
“We believe this is an excellent way to both share and preserve a wonderful piece of Mount Isa mining history, and thanks to the successful collaboration between the Library, Mount Isa Mines, and the National Library of Australia, MIMAG is one of the first journals to be digitised by Trove,” Mrs Hancock said.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch said she was thrilled with the project, and was looking forward to past and present Mount Isa residents having access to the publications.
“These magazines will be a fantastic resource for anyone with links to mining life in Mount Isa, and I’m looking forward to having a look through the catalogue,” Cr McCulloch said.
“Excellent foresight from the Library staff and Mount Isa Mines has led to the preservation of a little piece of our great mining history.”
