Cameron said on Friday morning he would rotate his own midfield guns on Bontempelli, jokingly suggesting even ruckman Rory Lobb could have a stint on the 192-centimetre young gun.

The 20-year-old was one of the Western Bulldogs' best last weekend, helping his side to a stirring win over Hawthorn and earning the right to play for a spot in the club's first grand final in 55 years.

"They're very hard to stop those sort of players, I mean he's Nat Fyfe-like," Cameron said.

"There is no doubt that guys like [Ryan] Griffen and [Callan] Ward and [Stephen] Coniglio are going to have opportunities to try to stop him in the midfield but in saying that, they do bat really deep.

"[Tom] Liberatore's at the peak of his powers, [Jack] McRae who people sometimes tend to forget about, [Luke] Dahlhaus, these sort of guys.

"I don't think you can completely stop a guy like Bontempelli. We just have to make sure we nullify him when we have to but also hurt him when it's our turn when we have the footy."

Cameron and Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge are bracing for a fierce midfield battle as two of the best contested ball-winning teams in the competition square off.

But it's up forward where the Giants will win or lose this game in the absence of veteran Steve Johnson, who has been replaced by Rhys Palmer.

Johnson is suspended after his high bump on Josh Kennedy in the Giants' qualifying final win over the Swans. Cameron has turned to 121-gamer Palmer to fill the breach.

He'll be supported up forward by Jeremy Cameron, fresh from a four-goal bag against the Swans, and Jonathon Patton who was held scoreless in the same game.

Lobb will also spend time forward, but is expected to play significant periods further up the ground.

Cameron was confident his side was capable of filling the hole left by Johnson.

"Collectively we expect to lose nothing," he said.

"You can't replace like for like, you just never can. The 22 that play, including Rhys, will absorb everything [and do] whatever Stevie produced as well.

"Twenty-two will play defence, 22 will out their head over the footy and 22 will be joining them when we move the footy.

"We've just got to make sure collectively that we're all switched on, we play our roles and don't need any one person to stand up and actually say, 'I have to be exceptional'."

Palmer's inclusion is the Giants' only change from the team that beat the Swans by six goals two weeks ago.

GWS beat the Bulldogs by 25 points in round nine, but were well beaten when the two sides met in Melbourne last year.

"They smacked us last year, when we played them down at Etihad – they gave us an enormous touch up," Cameron said.

"There is some good history, there's some good rivalry building between these two young sides, which is fantastic. It looks like it's going to be around for the next five or 10 years."
