Mount Isa pilots are being called on to take part in a special aviation safety briefing this week to keep local skies safe.
The briefing will focus on key safety issues which can put the lives of local pilots at risk when flying.
The main themes for this series being 'Starved and exhausted - Understanding fuel management' and 'Handling partial power loss in single engine aircraft'. These two issues contribute to a number of serious accidents and incidents every year.
As well as the main themes, this seminars will also provide an update on the Regulatory Reform process, a reminder of the correct procedures to use at Non Controlled Aerodromes, and a discussion on the pros and cons of using personal electronic devices in the aviation environment.
Local pilots will look at previous accidents and incidents involving fuel management and engine power loss to learn valuable lessons to keep themselves safe in the sky.
By using case studies from ATSB investigations, and Aviation Safety Advisors will help seminar attendees extract crucial lessons to assist in making better flying decisions.
CASA’s, Peter Gibson, said the briefing for Mount Isa pilots was part of a national aviation safety campaign.
“Teaching local pilots aviation lessons for life is a high priority for CASA,” Mr Gibson says.
“This briefing is the only one in North West Queensland so we encourage al pilots from across the region to attend.
“The seminars are an opportunity for industry to interact with CASA, discuss local issues and ask questions of the regulator.”
The free, two hour aviation safety briefing is being held on Thursday September 29 at 6pm at the Ibis Styles Mount Isa.
People attending are asked to book online at the CASA website here: www.casa.gov.au/standard-page/avsafety-seminars-schedule
